So, here goes:
Here is the first post I wrote (I put it in bold, to help the reader):
Where to begin? We were given Kai's file at the beginning of the year. We were not planning to adopt a little boy, but he's so darned cute. So there you go.
Kai has a hearing loss. We are actually unsure of the extent of his loss. The testing is a little iffy (in my humble pediatric audiologist opinion). There is a possibility that his loss is severe in both ears, or that one ear is much better than the other. Otherwise, he is smart, smart, smart and developmentally on-target. He is in a wonderful orphanage in China where he is spoiled and very well-loved. The director of the orphanage knits sweaters for all the kids. Seriously. They describe him as happy, social, and lovely. At seven months, he loved to reach through the bars of his crib to play with the other babies (awwwww!) and at 12 months, he loves to be teased and held. We hope to get him home and communicating by the end of 2011. Best case scenario (unlikely)--he'll be home in August/September. Worst case scenario--we'll travel in December. He turns two on December 8th.
Oh--other cool news: one of his "crib mates" who is 7 months older and also deaf lives in Spokane! His mom is a speech pathologist too! Of all the places in the whole world where this other family could live, they live in our state. It probably seems like nothing to most people, but it's so so huge for us. And it will be such a gift to Kai.
We're apprehensive, excited, smitten, overwhelmed, totally aggravated with the government and the new process (which I don't even fully understand). Send good thoughts. Lots and lots and lots of good thoughts. Right now, the hold up is with the FBI, and there's not a darned thing we can do about it.
And here are the first pictures we got of our boy:
