For some reason, Nora is really interested in talking about lawnmowers these days, and ice cream. She had a whole "conversation" with daddy today about how she likes ice cream but we don't have any so she'll just settle for watermelon. Seriously, even though no one else would probably understand it, that is exactly what she was trying to convey. It went something like this: "Watermelon? yeah! Ice cream? No ice cream. like it? like it ice cream. Watermelon." There was alot of "blah blah blah" in between the real words, too. Clearly, she wants us to understand that she realizes that we don't have any ice cream in the house, but in the event that some arrives, she wants to be informed and partake. In lieu of ice cream, 1/4 of a watermelon will do.
She has been feeling under the weather this weekend, which is a shame, as it was 85 degrees and sunny (that probably sounds normal to some people, but it's unheard of for May in the Pacific Northwest). We hung around the house, learned how to ride a bike, gardened A LOT, played with trains, and tried to learn the colors of all of our toys. Well, I know the colors; Nora is trying to learn the colors. For that matter, I know how to ride a bike, too. She knows the words "yellow" "blue" "red" "green" and "purple" and if I ask her, "what color is it?" she understands the question, but she doesn't say the right color. It's pretty cute, though, to see her walking around the house, pointing to things and asking, "yellow?" "blue?" "purple?" She's also using lots of two-word sentences and trying to put possessive markers on the ends of words. She is very concerned, still, about who owns what in the house.
Here is a cute video of her just imitating some words (she was feeling pretty cruddy, as you might be able to tell):
I'm guessing the sudden interest in lawnmowers has to do with her fascination with big trucks and powerful equipment in general, and the fact that she is hearing a lot of lawnmowers in our neighborhood. Also, she had never seen grass before coming here so, by extension, she had never seen a lawnmower!
And here is a clip of Nora learning how to ride a bike for the first time! Not too bad for a 2-year-old!
